Swimsuits for keeps

Marilyn - Anemone halter

Do you ever get swimsuit anxiety every time summer rolls around? I do — and not just finding suits that fit and flatter, but are stylish and will remain so even next summer!

Plus, every person has their own swimsuit issues: What parts do you want to cover? What do you want to show off? What needs support (cough cough)? All these conspire to make swimsuit shopping majorly stressful!

But maybe these tips can point you in the right direction:

  1. I consider swimsuits a “splurge” item. Spend a bit to get suit that provide good support and won’t go all loose and bacon-y after a few washes.

Fresh even under the sun!

Fresh under the sun

Summer is almost over and despite already experiencing rain, we still can’t stop the sun’s unbearable heat during the day! It’s a nuisance having to sweat right after putting on your make up and having to do it all over again. I’ve learned a few tricks to keep my lively self vibrant even when under the sun! Here are a few things I depend on.

Summer Treats For You

One thing I personally don’t like about summer is the amount of sweat that seeps out of me every day because of the heat! But summer also means getting to try new things, including desserts that’ll keep me
cool!

From my sweet tooth to yours, here are some mouth-watering refreshments to enjoy more of this summer.

Keeping Your Cool

Summer time is beckoning and as much as people look forward to the sun and the outdoors, the heat could wreak havoc on our food, and then our moods. Keep your kitchen cool with these tips.

Tip # 1 Ice Ice (Water) Baby

One of the most important things in the summer is to keep everything cold. During picnics, trips to the beach or outdoor barbecues, keep your uncooked meats, salads and drinks cold by placing them in ice with a little bit of water. The water will help spread the “coldness” of the ice throughout the entire ice box, making things colder faster, as opposed to just ice. It’s a good tip to remember also when chilling wine and champagne.

Slip, slop, slap and wrap

SLIP, SLOP, SLAP AND WRAP

Summer’s here and I’m busy as a bee! With family outings to attend, beach trips to plan, kids’ summer activities to sign up and months of slatternly housekeeping to atone for, it’s easy to forget the skin care routine – which is the worse thing one can do with all this heat and sunshine!

If you’re pretty laissez faire with the sunscreen, now’s the time to step it up. UV rays (most potent between 9:00am – 3:00pm, according to www.epa.gov) can cause actinic keratoses (aka skin growths), premature skin aging, sunburn and, at worst, skin cancer. The American Cancer Society recommends a “Slip! Slap! Slop! Wrap!” approach to sun protection: slip on a shirt, slop on sunscreen, slap on a hat, and wrap on sunglasses to protect the eyes and the sensitive skin around them. We’ve tackled fashionable ways to slip on and cover up; here are some suggestions for those three other steps.

The sizzle season: Cover me glamorous

You’re at the beach or the pool and you’ve got your banging swimsuit on. You want to stay modest out of the water, though, or maybe you don’t plan on swimming at all. Do you reach for a pair of thin, fabric shorts and a white cotton shirt?

I say halt! Put the shorts and

The sizzle season: Swimsuit shopping

…And just like that (a la Carrie Bradshaw), it’s summer. You all know what that means: bathing suit season!

Full disclosure time: I do my best to be confident and own my body, but nothing brings home the fact of time and the ravages of childbirth than swimsuit shopping. I’m actually weighing-scale lighter than I was pre-baby, but my tummy’s all loose and my breastfeeding boobies are so unwieldy. That makes me uncomfortable in my previous sporty two-piece suits.

I’ve looked all over for appropriate replacements, which made me shake my fists in frustration, Where are all the boy leg shorts? Where are the Liz Taylor-fabulous retro swimsuits?
