A spoken word performance set to live sound art, the duo combines a hybrid of poetry and musical performance with Richard playing his work Ensemblage, a musical sculpture which sounds like an orchestra, and Kooky speaking soulful rhythms with her poetry.

Kooky TuasonHaving studied performance art under the British Council, Kooky Tuason crafts her experiences into images of life and passionately shares it with people hungry for the beauty of poetry. An advocate of performance poetry, primarily “spoken word”, Kooky Tuason, has been an active and vital force in the promotion of this art for years both onstage and through other mediums. Her previous spoken word albums include Romancing Venus Vol. 1 (2005), Romancing Venus Vol. 2 (2006), BigkasPilipinas, and In:Transit Manila Meets Toronto have successfully introduced Tuason and spoken word to a larger audience, working both as an elevation of the cult art to a mainstream status, and a return to the heritage of the oral tradition in poetry.

visual artForegrounding the musical performances are activities inclined with visual art. Art installation projects will be participated by Leeroy New, whose curation of art objects invite the crowd to experience a deeper connection with these objects. Together with up and coming artists from ImagineNationStudio, Jagnus Design Studio, and Secret Studio, these artists will provide the audience with a live art experience.

Local music acts will feature rock faves Kjwan, Urbandub, Sandwich, and Imago; coupled with indie rock acts Flying Ipis and Cheats. Feel the vibe with grooves and loops from DJs Ace Ramos, Katsy Lee and female DJ duo Deuce Manila; and the mind- thumping bass and beats with DJ-and-drummer duo Motherbass. Groove in with electropop sensations from Autotelic and electronica-funk-electro-nusoul-disco-future garage trio Sinyma. Listen closely to soulful streams from Chocolate Grass, jazzy quirks from Toni B., and ambient synth-pop intimations from B.P. Valenzuela.

Headlining these fifteen local acts is Grammy award-winning Australian recording superstar Kimbra of Somebody That I Used To Know fame. Dance performances will feature TEAM VIBE and many other guest performers participating in the lively mishmash of art, music and dance cultures.

A single performance isn’t enough to contain the Tuason’s energy though: Kooky is set to release Picket Lines: Dialogues Between Eves, Among Eves and For Eves, a coffee table book which features 100 photos of women with poems written on their bodies. The book juxtaposes poetry on select women’s skin and images to make powerful statements about the lives of women. It is set to launch on December 11, 2014, 4PM at the Ateneo Library of Women’s Writings (ALIWW).
