Farewell to an uneventful weekend and hello to a fashionable one. On September 29, Schu and Myth boutiques held a free Fashion Writing Workshop by Myth Boutique and Schu Shop at the Schu Factory Outlet in Pasig City, Ortigas.

Style and fashion bloggers and writers were in attendance. It was only a small company so everyone could talk and get to know each other. And the venue was a store turned lecture room — it was lovely and inviting, because everyone got to ogle the great shoes and clothes on display.

Tedrick Yau and Sarah Santiago were the key speakers of the event.

Tedrick Yau is the PR and Events Manager of One Mega Group. He discussed PR and Events Management. He majored in Economics in college but currently works in PR, his passion.

In his lecture, he said the agenda of PR is to get the news releases across through media. He shared basic tips for anyone interested in working in PR. He said a PR person should look presentable — they should represent the company. They should be ready for surprises, and deal with different types of people.

He also said that a PR professional should learn to listen, turn news releases news-worthy, and initiate creative publicity — they must pitch a different take on publicity.

“It’s not all about happiness,” Tedrick says, squashing the myth that being in PR is all glamor and fun. He also gave some quick guidelines for crisis management.

After Tedrick’s discussion, there was a forum and the first two who asked questions each received P500 worth of GC from Schu.

Then there was a quick break and some refreshments. During the break, the attendees were able to chat with one another and take pictures.

After the break, Sarah Santiago is the Features Editor of Mega Magazine, and she was there to talk about fashion writing. “In fashion writing, you have to have passion . . . you can’t expect yourself to enjoy what you’re doing if you’re not passionate about it,” she said.

According to Sarah, a fashion writer must put their best face forward. They must know how to write and how to edit, and should be there to edit until print. Another forum followed Sarah’s session, and more lucky participants got to win gift certificates from Myth and Schu.

Attendees got loot bags, which had goodies from Mega, Bling Duck, Myth, and Chocolate Schubar. Everyone was invited to visit the Schu Factory Outlet on October 6 for a sale.
