“I can’t think of any other color that brings happiness but gold . . . . I think any woman would look really elegant in black,” John Paras says.
On September 27, John Paras unveiled his latest collection for the holidays in a showcase at the Privé Luxury Club for the Privé Style Series. It featuring singers Frencheska Farr and Julie Anne San Jose from the GMA Artists Center, and style icons Monique Jamlang, Reshma Chulani, Lisa Ugarte, Angelique La’O, Cheryl Tiu, Jerika Ejercito, Phoemela Baranda, Claudine Trillo, and Princess Violago Dee.
As for this choice of two pop idols to headline his showcase, John says “I love music. I love Frencheska and Julie Anne. I also love artists like Rihanna, but I also love pop classics like Madonna and I love Kylie. Sometimes I go blank and music provides some texture of any little bit of inspiration.”
John chose the gold and black theme because he was going for a baroque feel. And the nearing holiday season meant celebrations and parties, with everyone in a festive mood. As a designer, he keeps his palette limited to certain colors that are more mute and classic than loud.
Every girl should have a little black dress in her closet, he says. “If you don’t know what to wear, put on a black dress.” Simply match it with the right accessories. And if you want to shine, go for gold.

“You should always work with the people you like. The people you work with should always bring you up. You should all go up together. You can’t do it with negative people who are trying to bring you down,” says John. Obviously a good formula for success, because the show was magical and everyone had fun.
