Team MJ is psyched to see The Bourne Legacy which is hitting the theaters in the country on August 5. Not only is it the next in the exciting Bourne series of movies, but a lot of the movie was filmed right here in the Philippines, and features a good number of our local actors. While a Hollywood film shooting in the country is not uncommon, The Bourne Legacy is one of the few movies where the Philippines is presented not just as a stand-in for another country, like Vietnam, but as itself.

Will The Bourne Legacy be able to capture the true spirit of the Manila and Palawan that we know and love? Let’s find out! Check out the video below, a clip from the movie that was released a few days ago. You have a bunch of cops trying to capture the lead characters Aaron (Jeremy Renner) and Marta (Rachel Weisz), in what looks like a working class residential neighborhood.

And who could forget all the awesome chase scenes around the Metro Manila in the second official trailer? We didn’t get to see them being shot, but some of the folks lucky enough to have been there at the shooting did say the stunts were quite impressive.

We’d like to give a shout out to the talented and hardworking local cast and crew who played a huge part in the success of the filming. We may not see all of them on screen, but it was clear to some of us who visited the set that they worked just as hard as everyone there. We’d like to give special thanks to Jeremy Renner’s bodyguard Mr. W, who not only kept the star of the movie safe during the long months of the shooting, but was super-friendly to the fans who visited the set, and made sure to slow down the car when Mr. Renner wanted to peek out his window and say Hi to the kids who were playing around the filming site.
