Lemonheads’ Evan Dando cover of Abba’s 1976 hit single “Knowing Me, Knowing You” is a lovely stripped down version of what had been originally been a more upbeat bouncy song. Armed with his voice that made Lemonheads such an iconic band in the 90s and an acoustic guitar, Evan Dando sings wistfully about the breakup of a relationship. Gone are the band and the chorus and the overriding cheerfulness that characterized the original version. While Abba sang in celebration of independence and liberation, this more muted version focuses on the inevitable feelings of loss and regret that comes whenever one says goodbye.
