I stumbled upon PLUMP this summer and I’ve been a fan of (and featured in, tee-hee!) this body acceptance blog, and the lovely twins behind it, ever since. Sisters Danah and Stacy Gutierrez started PLUMP in 2009 to counter the rigid standards of beauty perpetuated by the media and celebrate true Filipina beauty. And while they’re best known for plus size appreciation, the twins sum up their philosophy as “Diversity is beautiful,” and that means skinny or chubby, fair or dark, mestiza or morena, and everything else in between.

When they’re not blogging, working full time or spreading their advocacy through radio and TV guestings and various write-ups, Danah and Stacy find time to create and sell necklaces and T-shirts that continue to spread their gospel of body love. (When asked how they manage all these, they quipped: “Two heads are better than one!”)

Plump baked clay necklaces
“We saw this photo on a fat acceptance site that inspired us to create our PLUMP necklaces made with baked clay,” they shared. Soon, their readers started asking about a more visible way to display their support. “Our supporters emailed us about launching shirts, so we designed a few, posted it on our Facebook page and we got really positive feedback! So that’s when we decided to launch the I Love My Body shirts.”

The 100% cotton shirts go for Php350-400 each and are available from medium to 4XL sizes. The girls say the shirts (and even the necklaces) are a great way to raise awareness, stir up curiosity and spread the message of body love.
I think the shirts are nice and brilliantly subversive: in a world bombarded with ads and products that target our insecurities, wouldn’t it be cool to be a walking ad for all the things you accept about yourself? To order the necklaces, go to the PLUMP shop page and visit their Facebook page to order a T-shirt.
